INTO THE NIGHT

Late Light, Last Light and Into the Night. This three-book series on world steam locomotive operations could have been called “going, going, gone”.  … and guess where we’re up to! Night is upon us.

Back in the 1960s steam was everywhere. Tour train outings and privately restored lines were very thin on the ground. The passage of time has seen the ledger between regular service and preservation operations progressively rebalanced all round the world. Now we rely entirely on the latter for our occasional steam fix. Into the Night draws on this period of flux for its subject matter. This volume uses images from firm friends Malcolm Holdsworth, Mark Lanham, Robert Kingsford-Smith and Mike Tyack.

Cadeco’s partnership has run what has become a relatively long race with its self-publishing efforts. We have produced several series of books with a global or Australian focus and even dabbled in diesels. For most of these ventures we have relied on the support of highly competent photographers and wordsmiths among our wide circle of fellow tragics.

In signing off with Into the Night, we hope other enthusiasts keep putting their treasured images out in the public domain. Our hobby is a broad church and there is still so much to see.

With thanks to our loyal readership for supporting 33 years of steamy memories.
